Don’t let Your HVAC System Open the Door for Pests

Are pests getting inside your home?

Does an odor come out of your vents when your system is running?

Are you concerned about your indoor air quality?

It’s important to ensure that pests stay out of your air ducts and out of your home, as they can wreak havoc on your air conditioner’s health and your own. Gaps allow pests like stink bugs, silverfish, and rodents to find a home right in your air ducts.

How Do You Stay Protected?

  1. Seal ducts, vents and flues.
  2. Clean air ducts regularly.
  3. Clean out debris in your outdoor unit.
  4. Make sure your unit has been properly mounted on a raised slab.
  5. Cut grass and weeds away from your unit.

If you have a problem with pests infiltrating your HVAC system, you can set traps for them. However, if you continue to have a problem, you may need to call your local pest control company, and hire a heating and cooling company to ensure the air conditioner in your Ann Arbor home hasn’t been damaged.

Pests can often chew air ducts, and leave nests and dander behind, creating a disgusting odor and potential health problems. It’s absolutely critical that you consult with a professional regarding the air conditioner in your Ann Arbor home to prevent future problems. Regular maintenance can help resolve issues and identify problem areas.

4 Common AC Problems and How To Fix Them

Are you frustrated with your air conditioner?

Are you sick of calling a service man to fix a simple problem?

Do you spend too much paying others to work on your ac?

These are problems the average homeowner goes through. But you don’t have to anymore! We know you don’t want to be an expert air technician, but with our help, you can have a more basic understanding of your ac unit. It’s important to have your ac unit serviced so that it runs for many years to come. It’s also important to know when you should call your ac service man and when you should fix it yourself.

Here are 4 common problems with your air conditioner and how to fix them!

  1. Your air filter is dirty- Your filter should be changed once a month! This is especially important if you run it constantly or have pets. When the filter is clogged, your unit is running harder to produce cool air causing it to run inefficiently and waste energy and money.
  2. Your registers are dirty and blocked- Blocking your registers with big furniture like couches can cause you to waste money. Your house will not cool as quickly and your system will be working hard to force the air out of a blocked or dirty register. Blocking your registers is good in the winter when you’re trying to save money by heating the important rooms in your house, but not good when its done in the summer by accident. Vacuuming registers regularly is also helpful especially with pets or if you have asthma.
  3. It’s too sunny in your house- Newer homes are putting their AC units on the second floor instead of the basement. Just because it’s a new unit doesn’t mean it’s not working overtime. Make sure your unit is not by a sunny window. As a result, your unit will heat up and your home will feel warmer than it actually is. If your unit is in a room with windows, try using sun out curtains and keep them drawn during the day.
  4. Warm air is leaking into your unit- Checking the seals around your unit is good maintenance. If the seals are leaking, warm air can get in and cold air can get out. Reseal your unit with weatherstripping to avoid air loss.

It’s important to have your ac unit serviced regularly. At CMR Mechanical we offer great deals on routine maintenance for your air conditioner in the Ann Arbor area. And as for the bigger jobs, you don’t have to worry about us trying to upsell you!
