Ready for warmer weather, but not sure your heat pump is?

If you’re like most Michiganders, as soon as the calendar hits March, you’re itching for spring. But don’t let your excitement get the better of you! There are four things you need to do to make sure your heat pump is ready for spring. Cross them off your list today!

Remove your condenser cover.

If you opted to protect the heat pump’s outdoor components with any type of covering, it’s about time to remove it. You must take off any cover before the unit switches to cooling mode to avoid damage.

Adjust your thermostat.

It’s time to check your settings for the cooling season! If you have a smart or programmable thermostat, you can update your settings immediately. For standard thermostats, make a plan for your temperature settings and set an alert on your phone or calendar.

Start cooling.

Test cooling mode and make sure cool air is flowing from your vents. You want to do this well before peak summer weather so a technician can quickly address any problems before you even break a sweat!

Spring Cleaning

Need help preparing your heat pump for spring?

While you’re spring cleaning, add a few simple things to your list and take care of your heat pump.

 Outdoor clean up.

When you’re outside cleaning your yard, also clear debris and obstructions from the outdoor components of your heat pump. Cut back any plants, clear leaves and sticks, and dust away dirt. There should be about a foot of clearance.

Check the filter.

Your heat pump needs a clean filter to operate effectively. This means you should change it every 1-3 months. If it’s been a while, you probably need to change it now.

Clean vent and register covers.

Vacuum the dust from all your ventilation covers to avoid any obstruction in air flow. You may even consider a professional duct cleaning to maximize efficiency and air quality.
